「中伊豆窯ギャラリーダルシン」は、静岡県伊豆市（旧・中伊豆町）にある陶房兼ギャラリーです。陶芸家の山口廣海と、陶芸教室（2024年4月より休業中）やギャラリーを運営する山口八千代のご夫婦によって営まれています。
1970年、伊豆にものづくりをする作家がほとんどいなかった時期に、二人は東京から中伊豆に移住し築窯しました。その後、陶芸作品の制作を起点に、陶芸教室や手仕事の展覧会を中心としたギャラリー企画など、多様な活動を展開してきました。
本展では、山口廣海の陶芸作品を「造形」と「化学」という二つの視点から読み解きます。彼は陶房や美術学校での訓練を受けておらず、絵画や版画を背景に持つことが特徴です。陶芸を始めてからも、油絵・パステル・水彩・ペン画・銅版画などの多様な技法を用いて作品を制作しています。時期によって作風は大きく変化しており、これらの作品に登場するモチーフは、陶芸にも影響を与えています。
また、移住する以前に化学の研究に携わった経験は、釉薬づくりにも色濃く反映されています。代表的な赤と青は、それぞれ「炎」と「海」をイメージしており、これらは多様な鉱物の化学反応を試行錯誤する中で生まれたものです。
会場奥のレファレンス・ルームでは、インタビュー映像を通して、二人のこれまでの活動を紹介します。制作に加え、教室やギャラリーなど50年以上にわたり様々な活動を続けてきた二人の歩みに迫ります。

山口廣海（やまぐち・ひろみ）｜陶芸家
1935年東京都生まれ。早稲田大学理工学部卒業。早稲田美術研究会所属。
化学会社研究室勤務の後、中伊豆に築窯。作品は日常的に使うコーヒーカップや湯呑、マグカップなどの食器から、彫刻作品を思わせる花器、オブジェなど多数 。辰砂釉を中心とした釉薬の研究や、焼締め作品、銀彩などの上絵付を施した作品も手掛けている。
山口八千代（やまぐち・やちよ）｜陶芸教室講師、ギャラリーダルシン店主
1940年群馬県生まれ。早稲田大学文学部卒業。早稲田美術研究会所属。
地域の住民や観光客に向けて陶芸教室を開き、陶芸の魅力を伝えている。ギャラリーでは山口廣海の作品に加え、ブータンの手織り布や伊豆の手仕事作家による展覧会も開催している。

Nakaizu Kiln and Gallery Dharsing is a pottery studio and gallery located in Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture (formerly Nakaizu Town). It is run by ceramic artist Hiromi Yamaguchi and his wife Yachiyo Yamaguchi, who has managed the pottery classes (currently on hiatus since April 2024) and the gallery.
In 1970, at a time when there were very few makers active in Izu, the couple moved from Tokyo to Nakaizu and built their kiln. Since then, they have developed a wide range of activities, beginning with the production of ceramic works and expanding to include pottery classes and gallery programs focused on handcraft exhibitions.
This exhibition presents Hiromi Yamaguchi’s ceramics through two perspectives: Form and Chemistry. Yamaguchi did not receive formal training in a pottery studio or art school, and his background lies in painting and printmaking. Even after turning to ceramics, he has worked across diverse media such as oil painting, pastel, watercolor, pen drawing, and copperplate printmaking. His style has changed significantly over time, and many motifs that appear in these works have also influenced his ceramics.
His earlier experience in chemical research, before moving to Izu, is also deeply reflected in his approach to glazes. His signature red and blue glazes, representing “flame” and “sea” respectively, emerged through extensive experimentation with the chemical reactions of various minerals.
In the reference room at the back of the gallery, an interview film introduces the couple’s long-standing activities. Beyond Yamaguchi’s artistic production, it looks at more than fifty years of endeavors that include teaching and running the gallery.

Hiromi Yamaguchi (b. 1935, Tokyo) | Potter
Graduated from Waseda University, School of Science and Engineering. After working in a chemical laboratory, he established his kiln in Nakaizu. His works range from everyday tableware to sculptural vases and objects. He researches glazes—especially copper red (shinsya)—and also produces unglazed (yakishime) and overglaze pieces, including silver decoration.
Yachiyo Yamaguchi (b. 1940, Gunma) | Pottery Instructor & Owner, Gallery Dharsing
Graduated from Waseda University, Faculty of Letters; member of the Waseda University Art Association. She teaches pottery to local residents and visitors, sharing the appeal of ceramics. At the gallery, in addition to Hiromi Yamaguchi’s works, she organizes exhibitions of Bhutanese handwoven textiles and crafts by Izu-based makers.
